7 Things To Do Instead of Reaching For Your Phone
In this age of Social Media and everything…literally everything you do is on the phone. It is easy for us to get distracted and start mindlessly scrolling on Instagram reading about things like Rihanna’s baby nursery theme!
If you are logging in too many hours of screen time, it may be time for you to unplug!
The next time you go for the grab, try these things instead!
1. Do that thing you have been procrastinating on for the past day, week, or month!
We all have that thing we have been pushing back. Girl…just go do it. Write the email. Finish that business plan you been working on. Call the guy to get an estimate on how much refacing your cabinets is going to cost cuz you are tired of looking at your kitchen! Just go do it now…not later.
2. Go Stretch
You keep saying “ I really want to get my split and be more flexible” Well, that split ain’t gonna split itself! A lot of times out of boredom we fall into the habit of scrolling and usually we see someone we admire who is flexible and say things like “I wish I was as flexible as them”. Take 5-10 minutes to reconnect with your body and start smashing those flexibility goals!
3. Read
There is nothing greater than finding a great book and getting lost in it! Reading has a multitude of benefits.
According to LifeHack.org, some of the benefits of reading include:
- better brain connectivity
- increases your vocabulary and comprehension.
- empowers you to empathize with other people
Aside from this, it can also help you sleep better and reduce stress. And did you know, if you have a library card, you can access Libby totally free? This gives you access to a ton of audiobooks and ebooks totally free!
4. Practice Self-Care
When’s the last time you had an at home spa night? Or got to bed at a decent hour? I’m sure we could all use some more self-care in our lives! So why not put the phone down and pull out a sheet mask? Indulge in getting to bed at 9 pm, do something you enjoy today IRL! See how easy it is to leave that phone behind and concentrate on YOU!
5. Schedule an Important Appointment
You know that appointment you’ve been putting off? Maybe it’s getting a massage or back into therapy, or maybe that Financial Consultant you’ve been meaning to reach out to. Check out this article full of appointments you NEED to book in the next 30 days.
6. Get Outside
Take a walk, go for a hike, dance outside! Spend some time with mother nature and soak up the sun. Did you know that by simply spending time walking outdoors can lower your blood pressure? According to Health Matters, “Spending time outside is one of the easiest ways to improve your mental health and well-being.” So get outside, friend! Enjoy the day!
7. Make a Vision Board
You’ve likely heard about Vision Boards before but have you ever created one? If not, take this opportunity and let’s manifest some goals! There is power behind putting what you want on paper and visually seeing it represented on a daily basis. Take this time and create your own. This could include magazine clippings, drawings, or even make it fully digital! Canva actually has a ton of templates for vision boards and they are super easy to create. When you’re finished, make sure to display it where you can see it daily.
Basically, there are so many ways to tune out your phone and check back in to reality. It’s so easy to just pick up the dang thing and spend endless time scrolling, but as we know this accomplishes nothing. So which one are you going to try?
